"In this combo of watercolor and gouache paintings, I wanted to simulate the busyness of textures and values that we see as we look at a bushy plant. Overlapping layers of foliage and flowers against varying tones of the background are depicted by a mix of expressive brush strokes and flat shapes. This process was a clash of fun expressiveness and tedious detail, looseness and control."
